Mangrove Sanctuary

Before the month of February ended, Mabe's grade level and her Girl Scout group went on an environmental advocacy activity. Mangrove Planting at Balaring Coastal Eco-Tourism Area. The 50-hectare mangrove sanctuary is located in Brgy. Balaring, Silay City in Negros Occidental. In the area is a 1.2 kilometers bamboo bridge, the longest in Visayas.

It was an adventure to my 10-year old, who have never been to a mangrove sanctuary and crossed a bamboo bridge. Talking about the bridge, I hope the agencies that maintains the safety and reconstruction of some decayed bamboos find time and effort to do the maintenance.

The experience was all worth it and all for a good cause. Activities like this should be encouraged by schools and other institutions.
